Objective & Audience
This course aims to provide practitioners working at all levels, from field technicians to project managers in agricultural programming:
1. A foundational understanding of core nutrition principles
2. Practical tools and guidance for integrating nutrition into agricultural development work
3. Basic skills required to develop, execute, and monitor simple strategies to increase the adoption of nutritious diets
4. Foundational skills required to undertake further learning to develop more complex integrated nutrition approaches for agriculture development.
Structure of the Course
The course is structured into 5 modules with embedded online quizzes to test your understanding on nutrition and nutrition sensitive agriculture.
Module 1: Introduction to Nutrition
Module 2: Diets in the context of food systems and agriculture
Module 3: Changing behaviour to improve nutrition through agricultural interventions
Module 4: Designing appropriate nutrition-sensitive agriculture interventions
Module 5: Measuring progress in nutrition-sensitive agriculture interventions
The modules are meant to be taken sequentially, with materials in each building on the previous modules.

This online course on Introduction to Nutrition and Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture was developed by Catherine Macharia-Mutie PhD, Nutrition Expert and Deputy Team leader with IGNITE project and Kathryn Merckel, PhD, Associate Director of Nutrition and Food Systems at ACDI/VOCA under the Impacting Gender & Nutrition through Innovative Technical Exchange in Agriculture (IGNITE) project. The course was improved by comments from IGNITE technical experts, Wema Adere (Nutrition Expert) and Winnie Osulah (Gender Expert).
